Cornish Pasties are a classic English dish from Cornwall. These delicious pastries filled with meat and vegetables are perfect for a hearty dinner.

Ingredients

  • Shortcrust pastry - 500g
  • Skirt steak, cut into small cubes - 350g
  • Potato, peeled and finely diced - 1 large
  • Swede (rutabaga), peeled and finely diced - 1 small
  • Onion, finely chopped - 1
  • Salt and pepper - to taste
  • Egg, beaten - 1

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan.
  2. Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface to the thickness of a coin. Cut out circles using a plate as a guide.
  3. In a bowl, mix together the steak, potato, swede, and onion. Season well with salt and pepper.
  4. Divide the mixture between the pastry circles, leaving a border around the edge. Brush the edges with beaten egg, then bring up the sides and crimp together.
  5. Place the pasties on a baking tray and brush with more beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve these pasties with a side of green salad and a glass of fruity Pinot Noir.
