Cornish Pasties - Thursday, Week 19
Cornish Pasties are a classic English dish from Cornwall. These delicious pastries filled with meat and vegetables are perfect for a hearty dinner.
Ingredients
- Shortcrust pastry - 500g
- Skirt steak, cut into small cubes - 350g
- Potato, peeled and finely diced - 1 large
- Swede (rutabaga), peeled and finely diced - 1 small
- Onion, finely chopped - 1
- Salt and pepper - to taste
- Egg, beaten - 1
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200C/180C fan.
- Roll out the pastry on a lightly floured surface to the thickness of a coin. Cut out circles using a plate as a guide.
- In a bowl, mix together the steak, potato, swede, and onion. Season well with salt and pepper.
- Divide the mixture between the pastry circles, leaving a border around the edge. Brush the edges with beaten egg, then bring up the sides and crimp together.
- Place the pasties on a baking tray and brush with more beaten egg.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve these pasties with a side of green salad and a glass of fruity Pinot Noir.
